Our Story

Clothes That Know Who You Are

PHERAN started in Osogbo, grew across Nigeria, and was built on a singular belief: that African women deserve clothes that honour their heritage, their ambition, and their individuality — all at once.

A Closet Full of Compromise

In 2019, Bankole Feranmi stood in front of a wardrobe full of imported clothes that said nothing about who she was. An Ekiti-born creative with a passion for precision craft, a deep love for Nigerian textile tradition, and a sense of style that the global fashion industry simply hadn't accounted for.

So she started making her own in Osogbo, Osun State. First for herself, then for colleagues who kept asking "where did you get that?" Three years of quiet persistence later — and a move to Ibadan — PHERAN was launched.

The name comes from the Old Persian word for garment — a nod to the idea that clothing is a universal language, spoken differently in every culture, yet understood by all.

Redefining What "Made in Nigeria" Means

We believe Nigerian craftsmanship deserves to sit alongside the world's finest fashion houses. Not as a novelty, not as an "African aesthetic" — but as a full expression of excellent design, impeccable construction, and intentional creativity.

Every PHERAN piece is designed and made by hand across Nigeria. Our fabrics are sourced locally wherever possible — Aso-oke from Iseyin, Ankara from Abuja, hand-dyed adire from Abeokuta. We work with certified artisans who have honed their craft over decades.

Our ready-to-wear line brings this craft to more women. Our bespoke service brings it to your exact body, your exact occasion, your exact vision.

What We Stand For

Intentional Design

Every silhouette begins with a question: "Who is this woman, and what does she need from this garment?" We design for real occasions, real bodies, and real confidence.

Handcraft First

We prioritise handwork over automation. Our embellishments are hand-stitched, our patterns are hand-cut. Slower, but markedly more beautiful — and you can feel the difference.

Local Sourcing

Over 70% of our fabrics are sourced within Nigeria. We pay fair prices to local weavers, dyers, and fabric merchants, keeping value in our communities.

Fit for Every Body

Our size range runs XS–3XL and our custom service has no upper limit. We believe fashion's greatest failure is making women feel like exceptions.

Responsible Practice

We use biodegradable packaging, donate unsold samples to fashion schools, and track our water and textile waste. Sustainability isn't a marketing strategy — it's an operating principle.

Community Over Competition

We collaborate with other Nigerian designers, share platforms, and mentor emerging creators. A thriving Nigerian fashion scene lifts all boats — including ours.

Wearing Well, Living Well

We are committed to being a fashion business that the planet — and the people on it — can afford. Here's what that looks like in practice:

🌱 Biodegradable packaging

All orders ship in compostable mailers and recycled tissue paper. No plastic poly bags — ever.

Zero-waste cutting

Fabric offcuts are donated to local fashion schools and upcycled into accessories and lining material.

💧 Low-impact dyeing

We partner with dye houses that use low-water techniques and natural pigments wherever the design allows.

👷 Fair wages

All our artisans earn above industry average, with health benefits and paid leave. Quality work deserves quality compensation.
